The UN Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal (pictured, left), is currently in Seoul, Republic of Korea to attend the Asian Leadership Conference. The 5th annual Conference brought together renowned global leaders to discuss the pressing issues of our time.
On 5 March, Mr. Launsky-Tieffenthal met with Cho Tae-yul, Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of ROK. The Vice Minister explained the Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative and other key foreign policies of the government, as well as its pending diplomatic issues with the neighboring countries at the meeting.
The two also exchanged views on how to further engage and strengthen collaboration between the Korean government and the UN Department of Public Information. In addition, Vice Minister Cho asked the Under-Secretary-General to promote the ROK’s development experience and contribution to the international community through the UN Information Centre.
During his visit, Mr. Launsky-Tieffenthal, who is also the UN Coordinator for Multilingualism, plans to give special lectures at Yonsei University and Ewha Womans University.
