Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO)

Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) is a treaty-based intergovernmental organization that promotes cooperation through action-oriented practices towards achieving the shared SDGs and regional and global goals of increasing forest cover and addressing climate change. AFoCO promotes and undertakes forest cooperation programs and projects to rehabilitate degraded forest land and prevent deforestation and forest degradation. Its works also address capacity development needs in the forest sector through diverse capacity building programs and operation of AFoCO Regional Education and Training Center (RETC).

The initial phase was formalized through the ASEAN-ROK Forest Cooperation in 2012 and inaugurated as an intergovernmental organization in 2018.

Currently, AFoCO’s membership is composed 14 Parties including Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lao PDR, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Viet Nam as well as 2 Observers, Malaysia, and Tajikistan.
