The UN Day Quiz Contest 2017 was jointly organized by 10 UN offices and international organizations located in the Republic of Korea (ROK) to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the UN. The quiz, consisting of 22 questions related to the key activities of the participating offices and the Global Goals, helped raise awareness and understanding of the UN and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It attracted close to 100 competitive entries from the Republic of Korea. Heebeom Shin, Mi-Jin Lee, Yangrae Lee, and Youngcheol Cho were selected as the winners by a panel of judges.

I am a student majoring in social welfare and management. Since I have always been keen on the issue of refugees, I have been keeping up with the work of international organizations that are responsible for this. Then, fortunately, I was given an opportunity to participate in the UN College Leaders Program hosted by WFUNA last April. Throughout the program, I was able to hear stories from employees working in various fields at the UN Headquarters in New York, which helped me grow more interest in not only the refugee issue, but also the UN as a whole.
Being able to solve the questions related to the international organizations that I am interested in was a fun experience for me. I was so surprised to learn that I won this contest, but feel so happy about it. Thank you for hosting the ‘UN Day Quiz Contest 2017’ and by taking this opportunity, I will continue to show interest in the international organizations.
Yeongcheol ChoI am an undergraduate student majoring in management, but currently I am taking a break to do an internship at UNHCR Representation in the Republic of Korea. I am glad that my colleague told me about the ‘UN Day Quiz Contest 2017.’ Since I am really keen in the topics of refugees and human rights, I hope to pursue a career in this field. Not only do I have an interest in the work of UN agencies like UNHCR, OHCHR, OCHA, and UNDP, but also that of NGOs like Humans Rights Watch. While solving the quiz, I felt that it was a bit harder and longer than I imagined, but I was able to learn many new terminologies. I am so happy to have won this contest.
Heebeom ShinI majored in English Education at education college. In fact, I was not really interested in international organizations except for UNICEF and UNDP, but I was able to learn more and became more interested in them by participating in this contest. I will try to promote international organizations to people around me and support the international organizations from now on.
Yangrae LeeI graduated from a graduate school of international studies after majoring in engineering as an undergraduate student. I am currently working for an international organization. I was so surprised to learn that I won this contest, but feel very happy. I hope that many people will continue to show their interest in the international organizations.
